Born Theodore Frederick Trautner, in San Francisco, Ca to Theodore and Josephine (Boehm)
Trautner on May 7, 1896.  He had two brothers and 3 sisters.  One or two sisters died in a flu
epidemic in 1915. He was baptized Lutheran at Evangelische St. Lucas Gemeinde Church in
San Francisco on September 9, 1906.  He never practiced his religion as an adult.  He lived at
312 Diamond St. and had a vivid memory of the 1906 Earthquake, being knocked out of bed and
watching the city burn, with his brothers, from their bedroom window.  He followed in his father's
footsteps into the newspaper business.  He worked first with the Oakland Post and later the
Oakland Tribune where he worked as a Lino type operator until retirement at the age of 67. 
Even after retirement he continued to work part-time.


He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Alameda County Bowling Hall of Fame.  He was
secretary of the Bowling Association and a  member of the International Typographical Union. 
Also active in Alameda County Labor Federation (AFL-CIO) and a delegate to several labor
conventions.  As his grand-daughter, I remember him always having a silver dollar for me!


According to their daughter, her parent's met some time while working in Sacramento.  They had
both lived in San Francisco and socialized with the same group, but didn't know each other then.
However, they both loved to dance, and this is possibly how they met.  After they were married they
lived for a short time with Delta's mother and step-father before moving to 2407 - 35th Ave. Oakland
and then they bought a house at 5512 Holway Street, also in Oakland, where they remained forever


He is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland, CA with his infant son, Robert -
there is no headstone - he is in the Garden of Palm - row 4, space 138.


They lived at 5512 Holway, Oakland, CA from the late 1920,s until just before they died.
