JOHANNA LARSEN
b. DEC 8, 1838 DENMARK
d. OCT 11, 1887 - RICHMOND, UTAH

Listed as Johana Larsdtr on the LDS site "familysearch.com".  Born in the same house as her
mother and grand mother in Vest Saaby, Denmark,  Johanna gave birth to 10 children in the
same home.  Her grand-father's third wife, Maren Larsen, also lived with them in the house
until she died in 1883 (she was born in 1800).

When Bolina was 5, she saw a picture of a man in the newspaper and asked
who it was.  Her mother stated it was Brigham Young, President of the Mormon Church,
the year was 1876.  It was that year they converted to the Mormon Faith and their goal
was to go to America.  They decided to do so once the grand-mother died.

While on the ship from Copenhagen to England, she was extremely seasick and her three
young children got whooping cough.  It was up to 12 year old Bolina to take care of them.
Bolina was "happy and strong" and was glad she was their to help her mother.
Once on the train across England to Liverpool she was feeling better, but they then
boarded the ship "Arizona" on it's Maiden Voyage to America, and again she suffered
from sea sickness.  Once in New York, she got better and the children were vaccinated.

From N.Y. they traveled to Ogden, Utah and arrived on July 1, 1884 at 6:00 a.m. on
a "sunny, beautiful day" according to Bolina.  They waited in the station until 6:00 P.M.
for the next train to Logan, Utah.  They celebrated her  daughter, Karen Margarete's,
8th birthday with lemonade and soda water while waiting in the station.  They boarded
the train for Logan and arrived late that night.  They stayed in the station until the
next morning when a man with a buggy and two horses took them the rest of the way
to Richmond, Utah.  He was Mr. Peterson and was from Denmark also.

He was married and had three daughters who contracted whooping cough from Johanna's
younger children.  Bolina stated they had a "whooping good time"...showing her
sense of humor.  Johanna and her older children were baptized shortly after arriving.
Quarantined after arriving, Johanna sent Bolina to live with an Elder of the Church
named Hansen to learn English, earn money and be away from they kids until they
recovered. After the kids were well, Johanna rented a very small, two room house for
them, but they were all happy to be together and have their own house.

When her husband joined them, they moved again, bought a little farm on 3 acres.
The house was run down but Anders fixed it up.  Johanna was happy to have cows to
milk again.  One night in 1887, the door flew open in the night and she got up to close it.
She became ill soon after and died three weeks later from a Typhoid epidemic,
joined by her 3 youngest children. I am not sure if she had any brothers or sisters.
