A FAMILY STAR
When he came into the Family, his life's ambition was to
join the Police Department.  He reached that goal!
Becoming the Second Officer in our Family.

His good looks gave him the nickname of "Hollywood" on the
Department.  His smile and humor are his best attributes!

The quote on the back of this Police Officer
card has a personal message which says,
"Enjoy life to it's fullist before it passes you by".
Little did he know how much it would refer to him.....
One month after the birth of his second child an elderly woman made a U-turn in front
ofhim while he was in pursuit of a vehicle.  He tried laying his bike down but continued
toward the car.   A witness saw the accident and used Jim's own radio to call the
Department  to let them know an Officer was down.  He was taken to a trauma center.

While there, they it was found he had a broken back and shoulder.
But the worse was yet to come.

They found a hole torn in his heart.  He was immediately air lifted to Stanford University.
Emergency surgery was performed.  His wife, with their new baby, hardly ever left his side.
He was in the hospital for months!  He was plagued with continual hiccups during this time.
The healing took it's time.   The surgeries exhausting.  When he was finally released from
Stanford he was sent to a Rehabilitation Center, again for a lengthy stay.   After his  release
from there he continued with Physical Therapy.   It was a year before he was on the mend.

I give him this STAR status because he is an inspiration!  His strength and perserverance
to work so hard to become whole again is amazing.   He even returned to the Department,
but this time as a D.A.R.E. Officer.   He really wanted to return to his motorcycle.
But in time it was realized he could no longer keep up with the Department.

He retired in 2001.   Today he still suffers daily pain, but continues on.
His smile is still aglow.  We are blessed to have him in the Family.
Always a clown!
A Kiss for
