FROEMMING FAMILY TREE
Hugo August FROEMING
Aug 20, 1890-Jan 28, 1952
Born in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
I'm not sure if it was Schleswig or not,
however that is where his other siblings were born.
My father told me it was a German Community and
that Hugo did not learn to speak English until he was about 12.
As an adult he still spoke with a German accent.

He is listed in the 1920 census of Missoula, Montana,
married with children.
Hugo is listed as head of household at age 29.
Mary (Larkin) is his wife at age 27.
Margaret is daughter at age 8.
Violet is daughter at age 4 (turning 5 shortly).
Katherine is daughter at age 1 (turning 2 shortly).
Son Jack was born in August so is not listed on Census.

Here they lived until Jack was about 5 at which time they moved
to California where another son was born (still living)

Hugo and Mary did have another child named Robert who was
their first born but died around his first birthday.

In 1926 they lived at 2645 - 39th Ave., Oakland, CA
His address at time of death was 4726 Tompkins St. Oakland, CA

My father told me that during the depression he would fish on his
lunch break and share the fish he caught with his neighbors.

Newspaper article - Operator in Key Tower Dies at Post
Hugo Froeming, 62, died early today at his post as control operator in
the Key System's interlocking tower at Yerba Buena and Adeline Streets.
Death apparently was due to a heart attack.  His body was found on the
floor of the tower by crewmen of the "F" train who investigated aftere
he failed to pull a switch to shunt them onto Bridge rails at 5:39 a.m.
He had last operated a switch for a train which passed through at 2 a.m.
Froeming was taken to Herrick Memorial Hospital where efforts of an
Emeryville Fire Dept. resuscitator squad were unsuccessful.

I have a letter addressed to his wife, Mary, dated January 29, 1952
from Key System Train Lines which says,

"Dear Mrs. Froeming,
Please permit me to express our deepest sympathy in the
bereavement you have suffered in the loss of your  husband.
Hugo Froeming had been in the employ of this Company for
more than twenty-four years with an extremely fine record.
His passing will be greatly regretted by those who worked
with him, and all of us who knew him personally extend our
heartfelt condolences.
Very truly yours,
F.W. Teasdel
President"
