Erminia Camozzi Dec 18, 1905 - Oct 19, 1907
Elvira Camozzi Sep 2, 1904 - May 21, 1906
I have no pictures of the "little girls" as we refer to them. But I can only imagine the joy felt by their parents. What a blessing, two little girls. Then came the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Their home was burned and they were forced to move to camps in Oakland, CA.
ELVIRA was only 1 year, 7 months old at the time of the 1906 Earthquake. She died one month later from "exposure in San Francisco fire". Her death certificate lists her as a male child named Joseph. However, the doctor wrote in the word "her". We can only assume that it was such a turmoil after the earthquake that after the doctor filled in the portion of the death certificate, the clerk who finished the rest, misunderstood Elvira's father, Joseph (or visaversa) and filled in his name instead of hers.
ERMINIA died the year after her sister,at the age of 1 year, 10 months. Cause of death was scurvy. This is also believed to be caused by poor nutrition after the earthquake. A major problem in the aftermath.
Both girls are buried together at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Oakland, CA They have an adorable lamb headstone which lists both their names and dates of death. Their parents are buried in the same cemetery.
