Angelina Moresi
Feb 1, 1885 - Sep 20, 1935
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
she moved with her family to
California when she was
about 7 years old.
(See her
husband's notes for their info)

I can only imagine the pain she felt,
loosing her first two children
within one year. She went on to
have six more children, the last
one was mentally handicapped.
She lost her husband when she was 43.
She died 6 years later,  leaving behind her young children.

While reading the articles about the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire,
I can only imagine the terror she felt.

The following article was from the Oakland Tribune the following days:

"April 18, 1906 -   Thousands of refugees, rendered  homeless
by the terrible calamity which has over taken San Francisco,
have come to this city (Oakland) to escape from the terrors
across the bay......two hundred cots have been placed in the
theater, relief stations have been established at City Hall,
various public parks  throughout the city, and churches
as are considered safe for such use.

As many buildings are in an unsafe
condition, the public are admonished  to keep off
the streets."

And the "Call=Chronicle=Examiner" is quoted as:

"Death and destruction have been the fate of San Francisco.
Shaken by a trembler at 5:13 a.m.,  lasting 48 seconds and
scourged by flames that raged  in all directions. On every
side there was death and suffering, hundreds  injured,
burned, crushed.  The water supply was entirely cut off".

I'm sure that it made her a  stronger woman.

It was suggested that her mentally handicapped daughter be placed in
a home.  She would not hear of it and was determined to keep her home
and give her the love and care she deserved.  She did so until her death,
at which time, it was necessary to do what she never wanted,

Dolores was placed in a home, where she lived until her death.
But it was a caring environment, with only a couple of other people.
I'm sure Lena would have understood and  been pleased that her
children cared enough  for their sister to be sure it was a loving home.
