| Born Giuseppi Napoleon Camozzi in the town of Bogno, State of Ticino, Switzerland on October 4, 1879. He married Angelina "Lena" Moresi on June 24, 1903 at St. Peter's & Paul's Cathedral, 666 Filbert St.,San Francisco, CA. (I have photocopy of "Certificate of Marriage). Lena's brother Charles Moresi was a witness and someone named Julia Resseghini who is unknown to us. We visited the church in 1996 to see where the marriage began. It was a great feeling to be there even though the original church was destroyed in the 1906 Earthquake, we still could envision the surroundings and the neighborhoods. We also drove past where they would have lived at 412 Union Street. He became a Naturalized citizen on August 6, 1896 in the Superior Court of California, City and County of San Francisco. An "A. Monga" witnessed the Naturalization and had the address of 519 Union Street. I have a photocopy of the 1920 census which states he came to the U.S.in 1891 which would make him 12 years old??? And it also states he was naturalized in 1896 which we knew. The naturalization papers also state you had to live in the U.S. for 5 years before you could be naturalized. Joseph (Giuseppi) was listed in the Oakland Directory in 1915 as living at 1215-87th Avenue. This is where he raised his children until his early death at the age of 50, from a blood clot in the brain. He was buried on March 4, 1929 by Elmhurst Chapel of Clarence N. Cooper Mortuary and on to St. Louis Bertrand Church for a blessing. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Oakland - 2529 Howe Street,Oakland, CA. After the 1906 Earthquake and fire, he moved his family to Oakland, where his two young daughters died. They then moved back to San Francisco where their first two son's, Lawrence and Robert were born.By the birth of their next child, Alvera, they had returned to Oakland. He was a melter in a shipyard by trade. I have a photocopy of a Record of Death from the City of Oakland Health Dept. - #5790,dated March 5, 1929. |
